Job Overview:
The Associate Safeguards Information Analyst (State Declarations) plays a crucial role in supporting the IAEA's mission by analyzing complex and sensitive information related to nuclear material accounting and Additional Protocol declarations. This position involves working closely with a team to identify discrepancies and follow up on issues from a State evaluation perspective. The analyst will be responsible for collecting, processing, and disseminating information related to nuclear safeguards, ensuring that the data is accurate and reliable. The role requires a deep understanding of the IAEA's safeguards processes and the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively. The analyst will also contribute to the development of new methodologies for data collection and analysis, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the safeguards system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Acquire knowledge of the Declared Information Analysis Section's work by analyzing nuclear material accounting reports and Additional Protocol submissions for assigned States.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from State reports and declarations to identify discrepancies or areas requiring follow-up actions.
  • Reconcile analysis results with other related information to identify technical issues, information gaps, and areas for process improvement.
  • Assist in designing, developing, and testing new data collection, analysis, and reporting methods, particularly for transferring analytical findings to the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Analysis Section.
  • Provide suggestions for improving databases and software usage to optimize material balance evaluations.
  • Draft guidance materials related to identified process improvements and promote knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Stay updated on developments and current issues concerning international safeguards as they relate to State reporting and declarations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in sciences such as physics, chemistry, nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of relevant experience in nuclear material accounting, nuclear safeguards activities, nuclear research, or nuclear non-proliferation is required. Experience in information collection, processing, and analytical techniques is essential, and familiarity with complex databases is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to integrate information into structured reports.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field such as physics, chemistry, nuclear science, or nuclear engineering is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding nuclear material accounting and safeguards processes.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in areas such as nuclear material accounting, nuclear safeguards activities, nuclear research, or nuclear non-proliferation. Candidates should have experience in information collection, processing, and analytical techniques, with a preference for those who have worked with complex databases.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56,046, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
