Job Overview:
The Senior Investment Officer position within the Corporate Finance Services (CFS) department of the IFC is a critical role aimed at supporting the execution of business strategies in the Africa region. The officer will be responsible for facilitating business development and executing transactions, particularly in the areas of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and equity mobilization. This role requires a strong background in M&A, as well as the ability to collaborate with regional teams to drive the origination and execution of advisory mandates. The officer will also lead strategic pre-IPO advisory mandates, ensuring that clients are well-prepared for listing processes and corporate governance. The position demands a proactive approach to relationship management, client engagement, and mentorship of junior colleagues, all while aligning with the broader objectives of the IFC and the World Bank Group.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Investment Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Strategy Development: Collaborating with regional teams to design and implement CFS’s strategy, focusing on the strategic priorities of the World Bank Group in Africa.
  • M&A and EMP Advisory: Driving the origination and execution of buy-side and sell-side advisory mandates, as well as restructuring advisory and equity mobilization services.
  • Pre-IPO Advisory: Leading the execution of strategic pre-IPO advisory mandates, which includes advising clients on listing processes, corporate structure, and business planning.
  • Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Client Management: Assisting clients in developing transaction strategies, conducting bankability assessments, and financial modeling.
  • Documentation Processing: Overseeing the drafting of key transaction reports and project documentation.
  • Mentorship: Providing guidance and support to junior colleagues to help them achieve their business targets.
  • Corporate Initiative: Enhancing the IFC brand within the CFS space and supporting overall communications strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance, business, law, or consulting, along with a minimum of 12-15 years of relevant experience. A combination of experience in equity transactions, advisory roles, and investment banking is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in transaction advisory, particularly in M&A and restructuring mandates, and must demonstrate strong client relationship management skills. Experience in taking companies public on major international stock exchanges is a plus, as is a strong business judgment and professional credibility.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance, business, law, or consulting is required for this position. This educational background should be complemented by extensive experience in relevant fields, particularly in private sector financial development and investment.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12-15 years of relevant experience in investment, advisory, or related fields. Candidates should have a strong background in equity transactions, M&A, and restructuring, with a demonstrated ability to deliver results under pressure and in challenging environments. Experience in international markets and cross-border transactions is highly valued.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages is considered a plus, particularly those relevant to the regions in which the IFC operates.
