Job Overview:

Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Information Systems Assistant and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the effective functioning of the Civil Society Unit. This unit is responsible for facilitating the participation of accredited civil society organizations in the intergovernmental decision-making process at UNEP. Interns will gain hands-on experience in website management, participant registration for meetings, client satisfaction surveys, and effective communication with stakeholders. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to learn about the workings of a major international organization and to contribute to meaningful environmental initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the preparation of website updates by adding and editing accredited organizations, uploading documents to the repository, and editing content on civil society webpages.
  • Assisting with the registration processes for various meetings, including maintaining the list of participants.
  • Developing and conducting a series of client satisfaction surveys, analyzing the feedback, and reporting it to the clientele, particularly the Committee of Permanent Representatives.
  • Drafting accreditation memos for organizations that have submitted accreditation requests for review.
  • Supporting effective communications with accredited UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders in accordance with UN mandates and guidelines.
  • Managing internal databases related to Major Groups and Stakeholders.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed undergraduate studies in fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Data Science, or Cyber security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security. Additionally, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Graduates with a university degree are also eligible to apply. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Skills in drafting news articles, social media posts, and designing surveys are desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree program (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or having completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the tasks assigned during the internship.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience in their field of study. This could include coursework, projects, or research that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. The focus is on candidates who are currently pursuing or have recently completed their studies in relevant disciplines.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
