Job Overview:
The Electronics/Electrical Technician position at CERN's Electrical Power Converter Group offers a unique opportunity to engage with advanced electrical and electronic systems that are pivotal to scientific research. Technicians will collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and industrial support teams in a highly international and cooperative environment. The position is designed for individuals who are eager to apply their technical skills in a dynamic setting, where they will be involved in the installation, testing, and commissioning of power converter systems, as well as the deployment and configuration of control electronics. The role also includes operational support, maintenance, and troubleshooting, providing a comprehensive experience in the field of electrical engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electronics/Electrical Technician include participating in the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of power converter systems ranging from 10 kW to several tens of MW. Technicians will contribute to the upgrade and renovation of converter control electronics and infrastructure, adapt electrical schematics, and participate in the design and validation of electronic boards. They will also assemble, test, and install electronic crates, racks, and cabinets, and contribute to fault-finding and operational support activities. In terms of controls infrastructure, technicians will coordinate and supervise installation activities, validate technical requirements, prepare work activities, and ensure compliance with CERN safety rules. They will also participate in commissioning campaigns during accelerator shutdowns and contribute to continuous improvement projects, ensuring clear reporting and technical documentation of their activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Higher Technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Industrial Controls, Automation, or a related field. They should have experience in the installation, testing, commissioning, or maintenance of electrical or electronic equipment, as well as knowledge of industrial controls, monitoring, or data acquisition systems. Familiarity with power electronics or converter systems, electronics assembly, cabling, and rack integration is essential. Candidates should also have experience in coordinating or supervising on-site activities and service providers, and be proficient in using CAD tools for electrical schematics, PCB design, or mechanical layouts.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Higher Technical diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Industrial Controls, Automation, or a closely related field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complex systems and technologies that the technician will work with at CERN.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have practical experience in the installation, testing, commissioning, or maintenance of electrical or electronic equipment. Experience with industrial controls, monitoring systems, and power electronics is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a background in electronics assembly, cabling, and rack integration, as well as experience in coordinating on-site activities and working with service providers.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The working hours are 40 hours per week, and the role is fully onsite. The position involves participation in regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays, and official holidays, as well as work in radiation areas and interventions in underground installations. A valid driving license is required, and candidates must obtain medical clearance due to occupational health risks associated with the position.
