Job Overview: The Consultant for the RESIslands Project Management Support will play a crucial role in providing effective and efficient management support to the RESIslands project. This includes overall project coordination and the integration of gender-responsive approaches across all project activities. The consultant will work closely with the Programme Coordinator at UNECA CFND to ensure that the project objectives are met, particularly in strengthening the institutional capacities of the African Island States Climate Commission (AISCC) member states. The consultant will also be responsible for supporting the implementation of gender issues within the project, monitoring and evaluation processes, and resource mobilization efforts for future activities aligned with AISCC priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will undertake a variety of tasks under the guidance of the UNECA Programme Coordinator. Key responsibilities include:
Management Support: Providing comprehensive support to the Project Management Unit (PMU) on all aspects of project management, coordinating country-level activities, organizing workshops and high-level events, facilitating official missions, and assisting in the development and operationalization of the AISCC online portal and e-infrastructure.
Gender Mainstreaming: Ensuring that gender issues are integrated into all project activities and promoting gender-responsive processes as appropriate.
Partnerships, Reporting, Monitoring, and Resource Mobilization: Supporting the monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of project activities, aiding in resource mobilization for follow-up activities, and fostering partnerships with implementing entities and other potential partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s level) in international relations, public policy, environment, or related fields. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in partnerships, communications, donor relations, event management, or related activities within the international and development sector is required. Familiarity with the strategies, policies, procedures, and methodologies of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) or other climate funds is essential. Additionally, prior experience working on gender and climate adaptation issues, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting is necessary. Experience working in Africa and supporting high-level events and dialogues is also preferred.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree at the Master’s level in fields such as international relations, public policy, environment, or other related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate change and development issues that the RESIslands project addresses.
Experience: The consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as partnerships, communications, donor relations, event management, or similar activities within the international and development sector. This level of experience is necessary to effectively manage the project and engage with various stakeholders involved in the RESIslands initiative.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this consultancy role. Additionally, good knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with stakeholders in Francophone regions involved in the project.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is full-time and requires professional exclusivity during the contract period. The expected duration of the consultancy is 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.
