This project involves creating communication materials that effectively convey key messages to diverse audiences, including survivors of gender-based violence, community members, and local leaders. The volunteer will be responsible for developing content and designing brochures, infographics, and other materials that are engaging and accessible. These materials will be utilized in various community activities, including Peace Hut sessions, outreach campaigns, and social media advocacy, to raise awareness about critical issues such as gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health rights, and community involvement in peacebuilding. The goal is to translate complex project language into simple, inspiring messages that foster dialogue and community ownership.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
Developing content for brochures, infographics, and other knowledge products that communicate the project's key messages.
Designing visually appealing and youth-friendly materials that are print-ready and suitable for community use.
Drafting clear and concise messages, factsheets, brochure text, poster copy, infographic content, referral information, and social media captions.
Ensuring that all materials are culturally appropriate, non-stigmatising, and survivor-centred, tailored for use with adolescent girls, young women, community members, local leaders, and service providers.
Collaborating with CCID staff to ensure that the materials align with the project's objectives and effectively address the needs of the target audiences.
Participating in feedback sessions to refine the materials based on community input and effectiveness in conveying the intended messages.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a simple and engaging manner.
Familiarity with issues related to gender-based violence, women's rights, and community development.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
Proficiency in using design software and tools to create visually appealing materials.
A commitment to the values of inclusivity, empowerment, and community engagement.
Educational Background: A background in communications, graphic design, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant educational qualifications that demonstrate their ability to develop content and design materials effectively. Experience in community development or work with non-profit organizations is an advantage.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in content creation and graphic design, ideally within the context of community mobilization or advocacy work. Experience working with marginalized groups, particularly women and youth, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and gender-based violence issues will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly desirable, given the bilingual context of Cameroon. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the target communities would be an added advantage, as it would enhance communication and engagement with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience in community mobilization and advocacy work. The role is flexible and can be performed remotely, allowing volunteers to contribute from anywhere. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is expected to align with the project's timeline and needs. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young women and girls in Cameroon through their contributions.
