Job Overview: The consultant will support the implementation of UN Women’s flagship programme, Making Every Woman and Girl Count (Women Count), which focuses on enhancing the production and use of gender statistics across Asia and the Pacific. The consultant's primary role will involve continuing the work initiated in 2025, specifically in developing a conceptual framework for the System of Environmental-Economic Accounts (SEEA) from a Leave No One Behind (LNOB) perspective. This position requires the consultant to facilitate the integration of economic and environmental data to better understand the interrelationships between the economy and the environment, particularly how these factors affect different population groups. The consultant will work closely with a Working Group of experts to propose actionable recommendations for implementing the SEEA, ensuring that gender and equity considerations are central to environmental management and policy-making.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for steering the meetings of the Working Group on Implementing the SEEA from a LNOB perspective, preparing meeting materials, and facilitating discussions. Key tasks include liaising with Working Group members, reaching out to additional stakeholders, preparing presentations, drafting summaries of key decisions, and conducting data integration and analysis to create mock account tables. The consultant will also support Member States in calculating account tables using their national data, collate experiences into a report, and draft recommendations for integrating an LNOB perspective into the SEEA implementation. Additionally, the consultant will promote the uptake of the Group's recommendations through webinars and presentations at global and regional meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, environmental sciences, social sciences, demography, development studies, or related fields. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of 7 years of work experience in calculating environmental and economic statistics, with at least 5 years specifically focused on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounts. Experience in analyzing and producing microdata in collaboration with national government institutions is essential, as is experience in guiding expert groups and working groups. Familiarity with gender frameworks and experience in the Asia-Pacific region are desirable.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a Master’s Degree in relevant fields such as statistics, mathematics, economics, environmental sciences, social sciences, demography, or development studies. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be considered. Experience: The consultant is expected to have at least 7 years of relevant work experience, particularly in calculating environmental and economic statistics. A minimum of 5 years of this experience should involve working with the System of Environmental-Economic Accounts. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. The consultant must possess exceptional communication, diplomacy, and writing skills in English, as these are critical for effective collaboration and dissemination of findings within the international statistical community.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is based in Bangkok, with the consultant primarily working off-site but required to attend meetings at UN Women’s offices as necessary. Travel costs and Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) will be provided for any required travel on mission, following UN Women’s travel policy. The contract duration is expected to extend until May 2027, with specific deliverables outlined for each quarter.
