Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) was established to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the UN Development System. The DCO plays a crucial role in supporting the Resident Coordinator system, which is pivotal for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The organization operates globally, with regional teams located in major cities such as Addis Ababa, Amman, Bangkok, Istanbul, and Panama, providing support to 130 Resident Coordinators across 162 countries and territories. The DCO's mission is to ensure that the UN's development efforts are well-coordinated and impactful, fostering collaboration among various UN agencies and stakeholders to achieve sustainable development outcomes.

Job Overview:
This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in the regional office of the DCO in Bangkok and is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in supporting the regional team's communications and advocacy efforts across Asia and the Pacific. The intern will engage in various activities, including public outreach, organizational inreach, multimedia content creation, and digital communications. The role also involves supporting visibility initiatives that showcase the UN's contributions to development in the region. Interns will gain valuable insights into media monitoring and tracking regional and global coverage of key development and geopolitical trends, which will inform the communications and strategic outreach efforts of the DCO Regional Office and Resident Coordinator Offices (RCOs). This position is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months if necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting with public outreach initiatives to promote the UN's work in the region; contributing to the creation of multimedia content for digital platforms; supporting the development and execution of visibility initiatives that highlight the UN's coordinated development efforts; conducting media monitoring to track coverage of relevant development and geopolitical issues; drafting news articles and social media posts to enhance the UN's communication strategy; assisting in the design and implementation of surveys and polls to gather feedback and insights; collaborating with team members to ensure effective communication and coordination within the regional office; and participating in meetings and discussions to contribute ideas and perspectives on communication strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for this internship, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable, as is the capability to design surveys and polls.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic program must be provided with the application. This educational background ensures that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the DCO's initiatives.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This may include experience in communications, public relations, international relations, or related fields. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, making it suitable for those looking to gain insights into the workings of the UN and its development efforts.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application. Proficiency in multiple languages can facilitate better communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of the UN.
