Job Overview: The UN Volunteer position is integral to the UN Women’s Fiji Multi-Country Office, focusing on the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The role involves supporting the implementation and coordination of UN Women’s country program, which emphasizes governance, women's economic empowerment, and the elimination of violence against women and girls. The volunteer will work closely with government institutions, UN agencies, civil society, and development partners to ensure effective program delivery. Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: providing high-quality advisory and program development support; analyzing political, social, and economic trends relevant to gender equality; leading the design, planning, and implementation of program activities in FSM; preparing technical reports, briefs, and progress updates; leading and representing UN Women in coordination mechanisms; ensuring gender mainstreaming across UN frameworks; preparing strategic and technical reports; building partnerships with government, donors, UN agencies, and civil society; identifying funding opportunities and leading resource mobilization efforts; implementing advocacy strategies; documenting best practices and lessons learned; and contributing to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and advisory skills, with a proven ability to develop and implement programs effectively. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A strong understanding of gender issues and the ability to advocate for gender equality is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate adaptability and resilience, particularly in a remote setting with limited resources.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, gender studies, international development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in program development, implementation, and coordination, particularly in the context of gender equality and women's empowerment. Experience working with UN agencies, government institutions, or civil society organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Pacific Island context and issues related to gender equality is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of local languages or dialects in Micronesia would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders.
