Job Overview: The position of national consultant is part of the UNDP's project aimed at promoting and protecting human rights in Chad (APPDH – PBF). The consultant will be based in N'Djamena but will also undertake field missions to various regions including Lac, Hadjer Lamis, Ouaddaï, Wadi Fira, and Sila. The role involves providing expert advice and support to the UNDP in implementing human rights initiatives, ensuring that the rights of individuals are upheld and promoted. The consultant is expected to work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and civil society organizations to facilitate the project's objectives. This position requires a strong understanding of human rights issues in Chad and the ability to navigate complex political and social landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for conducting assessments of the current human rights situation in the designated regions, identifying key challenges and opportunities for intervention. They will develop and implement strategies to promote human rights awareness and education among local communities. The consultant will also be tasked with preparing reports and documentation on the progress of the project, providing recommendations for improvements and adjustments as necessary. Additionally, they will facilitate workshops and training sessions for local stakeholders to enhance their capacity in human rights advocacy. The consultant will collaborate with the UNDP team to ensure that project activities align with the overall goals of the organization and contribute to sustainable development in Chad.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in human rights, law, or a related field. They should have demonstrated experience in working with international organizations, particularly in the context of human rights advocacy and promotion. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with the political and social context of Chad is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in human rights, law, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of international human rights standards and frameworks, as well as local laws and regulations pertaining to human rights in Chad.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of human rights, law, or development. Experience working with UN agencies or other international organizations is highly advantageous. Candidates should have a proven ability to manage projects effectively and deliver results within specified timelines.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Chad. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the regions of intervention would also be beneficial.
