Job Overview: The Senior Driver position is primarily responsible for driving the Head of Office and other high-ranking officials within the UNHCR framework. The incumbent will be supervised by the Administrative Officer or other designated staff members, ensuring that the driving duties are performed in accordance with the organization's standards and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols. In addition to driving, the Senior Driver is tasked with the upkeep and maintenance of the assigned UNHCR vehicle(s), adhering to technical guidance and specifications set by the organization. The Senior Driver may also be called upon to provide clerical support and interpretation services as needed, highlighting the multifaceted nature of this position. Regular interaction with UNHCR staff and external partners, including government authorities, is expected, necessitating effective communication and information exchange.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Driver's duties include: driving UNHCR vehicles primarily for the Head of Office and other high-ranking officials; transporting authorized passengers and delivering or collecting documents and items; facilitating immigration and customs formalities for official personnel at airports or other locations; performing daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and meet established security standards; performing minor repairs and coordinating major repairs; maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle; logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and preparing reports on vehicle usage; ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo; assisting with basic interpretation services in the absence of an interpreter; identifying and managing risks related to the role; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential functional skills include a strong understanding of driving regulations and basic vehicle mechanical skills. The candidate must demonstrate accountability and a commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful working environment, free from harassment and discrimination. The role also requires a proactive approach to preventing inappropriate conduct and supporting dialogue on these issues within the workplace.
