Job Overview: The position of Implementing Partner for the Young Gamechangers Initiative involves collaborating with UN-Habitat to implement a demonstration public space intervention in Armenia (Quindío), Colombia. This initiative focuses on transforming the Polideportivo La Grecia through participatory, youth-led, and community-driven processes. The selected partner will be responsible for enhancing public space quality, accessibility, safety, and social cohesion by engaging the community in the design and implementation phases. The project aims to promote environmental sustainability and community ownership of public spaces, aligning with the broader goals of the Young Gamechangers Initiative, which seeks to empower youth as catalysts for urban transformation. The role requires a commitment to participatory processes and the ability to coordinate effectively with local stakeholders and community members.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Implementing Partner will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Preparing a detailed budget, work plan, implementation schedule, and methodology for the project.
Procuring materials and construction elements necessary for the intervention.
Implementing tactical and practical urbanism interventions in accordance with the approved architectural and urban designs.
Coordinating with local authorities, contractors, local labor, and community stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Facilitating participatory and community-based implementation activities to enhance community ownership of the public space.
Ensuring compliance with local regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and permitting processes throughout the project.
Documenting and systematizing the implementation processes and lessons learned for future reference.
Developing communication materials, including before-and-after documentation and beneficiary testimonies to showcase the impact of the intervention.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Implementing Partner position should possess a range of qualifications, including:
Strong understanding of participatory processes and community engagement strategies.
Ability to manage budgets and project timelines effectively.
Familiarity with local regulations and safety standards related to construction and urban interventions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Capacity to document and report on project activities and outcomes comprehensively.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should ideally hold a degree in urban planning, architecture, community development, environmental studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in participatory design or urban sustainability will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have significant experience in urban development projects, particularly those involving community participation and tactical urbanism. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in project management, urban planning, or community engagement is preferred. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs will be advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, as the project will be implemented in a Spanish-speaking context. Knowledge of English is also beneficial, as it may be required for communication with UN-Habitat and other international stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the local community may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The project is expected to start in June 2026 and will last for approximately three months. The maximum proposed value for the project is $42,000 USD. The Implementing Partner will be expected to work closely with UN-Habitat and local stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project. This position is part-time and may involve flexible working hours to accommodate community engagement activities.
