Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives involves creating visually appealing images for social media to promote the High Commission's small grants development programme. The volunteer will be tasked with designing six images that represent key themes of the programme, including Canada's support for peace, governance, and economic growth in Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with an international audience and contribute to the visibility of Canadian initiatives in the region. The images must be modern, engaging, and culturally relevant, reflecting the diversity of the concepts without the use of text, as they will be shared on both English and French language platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create six original images for social media that visually represent the following themes: Canada in Kenya, Canada in Somalia, Canada in Uganda, Canada supports peace and security, Canada supports governance, justice and elections, and Canada supports inclusive economic growth.
  • Ensure that the images are modern, engaging, and culturally relevant to the respective countries.
  • Collaborate with the High Commission to understand the specific messaging and themes that need to be conveyed through the images.
  • Submit drafts for review and incorporate feedback to finalize the images.
  • Provide a signature for the posts and allow for tagging on social media platforms.
  • Meet deadlines for image submission to align with the announcement of new projects.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong artistic skills with a portfolio showcasing previous work in graphic design or visual arts.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools.
  • Understanding of social media trends and best practices for visual content.
  • Ability to create culturally relevant and diverse representations in artwork.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the High Commission team.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Formal education is not strictly required, but relevant experience and a strong portfolio will be essential.

Experience:
Previous experience in creating visual content for social media or similar platforms is highly desirable. Experience working with international organizations or on projects related to development and diplomacy would be an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly desirable, as the images will be used on bilingual platforms.
