Job Overview: The Project Coordinator for Women & Youth Development will play a crucial role in leading and coordinating initiatives aimed at enhancing the economic opportunities for women and youth in Sudan. This position requires a strategic approach to the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of livelihood projects that empower these demographics economically. The coordinator will work closely with the FAO Representative in Sudan and collaborate with various FAO technical divisions and regional offices. The role involves assessing the specific needs of women and youth, developing tailored interventions, and ensuring that projects align with FAO's strategic objectives. The coordinator will also be responsible for managing relationships with stakeholders, including government institutions, NGOs, and the private sector, to foster synergies and maximize project impacts. This position is vital for driving change and ensuring that women and youth can access the resources and opportunities necessary for their economic empowerment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: leading the design and implementation of livelihood projects focused on empowering women and youth; conducting assessments to identify the needs of these groups; developing concept notes and proposals for economic empowerment initiatives; preparing and updating annual work and procurement plans; supervising national personnel specialists across various sectors; managing agreements and contracts with partners; compiling and submitting project reports; organizing training and capacity-building activities; participating in research and advocacy efforts; representing FAO in relevant forums; ensuring collaboration with various stakeholders; working with the MEAL team to track project progress; and documenting lessons learned and best practices for communication and visibility purposes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or a related field. Those with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of 10 years of relevant international experience in managing agricultural development projects, particularly those focused on women and youth empowerment, is required. Candidates should also demonstrate a working knowledge of English at Level C, as well as core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, relationship building, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in fields related to agriculture, business, or rural development. For candidates with a bachelor's degree, additional professional experience is necessary to meet the qualifications.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant international experience in managing multi-stakeholder agricultural development projects, with a specific focus on women and youth empowerment, employment, entrepreneurship, or private-sector engagement. Experience in humanitarian, post-crisis, or transition contexts is highly desirable, as is prior experience with FAO, UN agencies, or international NGOs.
Languages: A working knowledge of English at Level C is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local context or the stakeholders involved in the projects.
