Job Overview:
The Gender In Humanitarian Action Specialist plays a crucial role in providing gender-focused technical assistance and leading humanitarian programming in Ethiopia. This position requires close collaboration with various humanitarian clusters and sub-clusters to ensure that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of humanitarian action. The specialist will work under the guidance of the Deputy Country Representative and will be responsible for coordinating the Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Group, participating in inter-cluster meetings, and representing UN Women in forums related to the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse. The role also involves developing strategies and policies to enhance gender mainstreaming in humanitarian responses, ensuring that the needs of women and girls are prioritized in all humanitarian efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gender In Humanitarian Action Specialist will lead the GiHA Working Group, ensuring effective coordination and communication among members, including women-led organizations and humanitarian actors. Responsibilities include providing technical support on gender mainstreaming, developing and implementing humanitarian projects, and advocating for gender issues within the humanitarian coordination framework. The specialist will conduct regular reviews of cluster analysis documents to ensure gender content is included, develop knowledge products to highlight gendered impacts of humanitarian crises, and provide training and capacity-building support to local humanitarian actors. Additionally, the specialist will manage ongoing humanitarian interventions, ensuring timely and effective completion, and will contribute to resource mobilization efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of gender and women's human rights frameworks, both nationally and internationally. They should demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, particularly Oracle Cloud, is desirable.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in gender studies, international relations, international development, human rights, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law, or other relevant social science fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects. Technical experience in Women, Peace, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security in conflict and post-conflict settings, as well as experience in humanitarian action, is essential. Experience in coordinating with government agencies and donors is an asset, as is experience working within the UN system and managing teams.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, and fluency in Amharic is considered an added advantage. Working knowledge of another official UN language is also beneficial.
