Job Overview:
The WASH Project Manager (PM) will be responsible for launching and implementing the WASH activities in Ed Daein. This role involves recruiting team members, ensuring proper induction and capacity building, and establishing project management frameworks. The PM will manage emergency responses and lay the groundwork for a more structured programmatic presence in Ed Daein. Key responsibilities include conducting needs assessments in various areas and developing a comprehensive response plan in collaboration with local partners. The position faces challenges such as high emergency needs, establishing a new base, and navigating access and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues. The initial priorities for the first two to three months include emergency responses in WASH, Food Security and Livelihood (FSL), Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), and Shelter/NFI support, as well as technical assessments for water supply systems in camps.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH PM will oversee the following duties:
  • Launch and implement WASH activities in Ed Daein, ensuring alignment with SI's strategic objectives.
  • Recruit and train team members, facilitating their induction into the organization and the specific project.
  • Develop and manage project management frameworks to ensure effective implementation of emergency responses.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify the specific WASH needs of the population in Ed Daein.
  • Collaborate with local partners to develop and execute a comprehensive response plan.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of WASH interventions, making adjustments as necessary to improve outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with SI's policies and procedures, particularly regarding safety and security in a high-risk environment.
  • Engage with stakeholders and coordinate with other humanitarian organizations to enhance the effectiveness of the response efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Water Resource Management, Engineering, or Project Management. Additionally, they should have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a focus on WASH programming. Experience in a similar position is also required, demonstrating a strong understanding of emergency response and recovery programming.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Water Resource Management, Engineering, or Project Management is essential for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage WASH projects in challenging environments.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, specifically in WASH programming. This experience should include working in emergency contexts and familiarity with the challenges associated with protracted crises. Candidates should also have a proven track record in similar roles, demonstrating their ability to manage complex projects and lead teams effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic and French is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local partners and stakeholders in the region.

  • The role is based in Ed Daein, Sudan, which is classified as a high-risk environment requiring strict security protocols. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 2310, a monthly per diem of USD 750, and coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Expatriates will also receive an insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. The living conditions include a guest house with basic amenities, although social life may be limited to interactions with other NGO staff.
