Job Overview:
The National Gender Expert position at UNICEF Jordan Country Office (JCO) is crucial for sustaining gender mainstreaming and targeted gender equality initiatives within the country program. The role involves providing high-quality technical expertise and gender advisory support in both development and humanitarian programming. The expert will work closely with sectoral colleagues to integrate gender equality into key planning and implementation milestones, ensuring that gender considerations are embedded in all aspects of programming. This includes supporting data collection, analysis, and strategic planning exercises, as well as advancing gender-responsive programming in various sectors, particularly in protection and adolescent girl empowerment. The expert will also collaborate with internal teams and external partners to promote gender equality and ensure that the organization's commitments to gender equality are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Gender Expert will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing high-quality technical expertise and gender advisory support in development and humanitarian programming.
  • Supporting the integration of gender equality into country program planning and implementation milestones, including data collection and strategic planning exercises.
  • Offering technical support for evidence-based gender-responsive programming in sectoral programs, particularly in protection and violence prevention.
  • Collaborating with sectoral colleagues to track and incorporate gender equality indicators in program and policy initiatives.
  • Participating in cross-sectoral collaboration to ensure coherence and efficiency in gender equality programming.
  • Providing technical support for high-quality research and reporting on gender equality results.
  • Offering guidance to national government, NGOs, and UN agencies on gender equality programming.
  • Supporting advocacy and partnership building for gender equality initiatives.
  • Engaging in needs assessments and humanitarian missions to ensure effective gender-inclusive responses.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of gender equality issues and programming, with a proven ability to provide technical support and guidance in this area. They should have experience in gender analysis, program management, and monitoring and evaluation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and UN partners. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing circumstances is also important. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in relation to gender equality and children's rights.

Educational Background:
A relevant advanced university degree in social sciences, gender studies, international development, or a related field is required. Candidates with a strong academic background in gender equality and women's empowerment will be preferred. Additional certifications or training in gender analysis, program management, or related areas will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in gender equality programming, including experience in development and humanitarian contexts, is required. Candidates should have a track record of successfully implementing gender-responsive initiatives and working with diverse stakeholders. Experience in monitoring and evaluation of gender equality programs is also essential. Familiarity with UNICEF's policies and frameworks related to gender equality will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory, as both languages are essential for effective communication and collaboration in the role. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working with diverse communities in Jordan.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, which means that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of JOD 1603.11, along with annual and learning leaves, free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The position is based in Amman, which is a family duty station with a peaceful living environment and good amenities.
