Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Education Specialist will work collaboratively with the coordination of UNICEF's Pacific Hub and the national education sector. This role involves facilitating work across all programmatic areas and implementing partners to achieve the priorities defined in the Country Program and the Annual Work Plan (AWP). The specialist will ensure that project results are articulated, monitored, and documented, with internal and external reports reflecting evidence-based outcomes. The position requires a technical and territorial focus on education in development and emergencies, with competencies to support the implementation of pedagogical strategies tailored to crisis situations, ensuring educational continuity for vulnerable children and adolescents. The specialist is expected to demonstrate commitment and leadership in promoting accessible, safe, and equitable educational environments, adapting to local conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implementation and Technical Support: Responsible for providing technical assistance to education implementing partners in both emergency and development actions within the Nariño department. This includes analyzing project relevance, accompanying community actions, promoting accountability policies, and participating in donor and programmatic visit agendas.
Advocacy and Coordination: Ensure participation in sectoral coordination spaces and local and national advocacy to highlight educational needs in the department. Actively participate in planning scenarios in education and local coordination as requested, collecting and analyzing humanitarian information related to children's rights.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Participate in technical committees of projects, reporting on implementation dynamics, and supporting the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans for educational indicators and project goals.
Strategic Planning: Support planning processes, project formulation, and information collection to provide concrete evidence of needs and impacts. Foster the articulation of strategies developed by various areas in prioritized municipalities.
Reporting: Produce technical reports, context analyses, and infographics based on internal and external data, ensuring compliance with organizational tools and preparing periodic reports on program activities as needed. Additionally, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate into the VNU program's mandate and promote voluntary action within communities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong technical knowledge in education, particularly in crisis contexts, and demonstrate the ability to adapt pedagogical strategies to local needs. They should have experience in working with diverse communities and a commitment to promoting inclusive education. Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce technical documentation are essential, along with effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in education in emergencies or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in education, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts. Experience working with children and adolescents in vulnerable situations is highly desirable, as well as familiarity with UNICEF's programs and policies.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is considered an asset. Knowledge of local indigenous languages may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is as specified, with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability, operational needs, and satisfactory performance. The position requires full availability and exclusivity with the United Nations system. A monthly living allowance of COP 6,082,394 is provided to cover housing, services, and ordinary living expenses. Health, life, and permanent disability insurance, as well as final repatriation (if applicable), are included.
