Job Overview: The position of International Consultant Financing Locally Led Climate Action involves revising the draft Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLOCCA) project document. The primary goal of this consultancy is to enhance the project document to attract funding proposals. The consultant will be expected to provide expert insights and recommendations that align with the objectives of the FLOCCA initiative, which aims to empower local communities in climate action efforts. This role requires a deep understanding of climate financing mechanisms and the ability to articulate the needs and capacities of local actors in the context of climate resilience and adaptation. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and other stakeholders to ensure that the project document meets the necessary standards for funding applications.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the International Consultant include:
Reviewing the existing draft of the FLOCCA project document and identifying areas for improvement.
Conducting consultations with local stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on the project’s objectives and implementation strategies.
Analyzing relevant climate financing frameworks and identifying potential funding sources that align with the project’s goals.
Revising the project document to incorporate stakeholder feedback and ensure clarity and coherence in the proposal.
Preparing a comprehensive report detailing the revisions made and the rationale behind them.
Presenting the revised project document to UNDP and other relevant stakeholders for approval.
Ensuring that the project document aligns with UNDP’s strategic priorities and funding guidelines.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
A master’s degree or higher in environmental science, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field.
Proven experience in climate finance, project development, and proposal writing, particularly in the context of local climate action initiatives.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP’s operational procedures and funding mechanisms is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a master’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as environmental science, climate change, sustainable development, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the project.
Experience: The position requires substantial experience in climate finance and project development, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully developing and revising project proposals, particularly in the context of climate action and local community engagement. Experience working with international organizations, particularly UN agencies, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Sierra Leone would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is classified as an individual contractor position, and the assignment is expected to last for 131 working days. The consultant will be required to submit their proposal directly through the UNDP supplier portal by the specified deadline. The position is not limited to national candidates, as international applicants are encouraged to apply.
