Job Overview: The NutritionEmergency Consultant position is a short-term assignment proposed by UNICEF, scheduled from April to September 2026, with a total of 180 working days. The role is crucial for reinforcing lifesaving nutrition support in priority districts of Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces in Mozambique. The consultant will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and monitoring UNICEF’s nutrition emergency interventions, ensuring that programming is integrated and that there is strong engagement with partners. The consultant will also ensure compliance with USG-OCHA grant requirements and promote adherence to national nutrition protocols and humanitarian standards. This position requires a proactive approach to adapt to the evolving operational context and to ensure high-quality delivery of nutrition services to affected populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing and coordinating nutrition emergency interventions, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, engaging with cluster partners, and promoting adherence to national protocols. The consultant will also be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring nutrition interventions, including community-based nutrition services and emergency health integration. Additionally, the consultant will oversee emergency nutrition supply chains, including forecasting and distribution monitoring, and will work closely with government counterparts and UN agencies to align with national strategies and priorities. The role will also involve capacity strengthening through training and mentoring of health workers and community volunteers, as well as producing timely reports and updates for donors and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, International Development, Humanitarian Studies, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Monitoring & Evaluation, Project Management, or a related field. The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Nutrition in Emergencies or public health nutrition programming in humanitarian contexts. Candidates should demonstrate experience in planning and implementing life-saving nutrition interventions, emergency preparedness and response, and oversight of nutrition supply chains. Experience working with government counterparts and UN agencies is also essential, along with a strong understanding of national nutrition protocols and humanitarian standards.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nutrition, Public Health, or International Development. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of nutrition in emergencies and for effectively managing and coordinating nutrition interventions in humanitarian contexts.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of relevant experience in Nutrition in Emergencies or public health nutrition programming. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in emergency response, including the planning and implementation of nutrition interventions in conflict-affected or fragile settings. Experience in emergency nutrition supply chain management and collaboration with government and UN agencies is also necessary.
Languages: Full professional proficiency in Portuguese is required, along with a working knowledge of English. Knowledge of relevant local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication and engagement with local communities.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 4.5 months, with the possibility of extension based on need and funding availability. The working arrangement is office-based with travel required to the field.
