Job Overview:
The Emergency Coordinator serves as a technical advisor for the mission, contributing to the development of Solidarités International's strategy by designing and proposing an operational emergency strategy for Ukraine. This role involves ensuring the quality and appropriateness of operational approaches in alignment with SI's objectives and the needs of local populations. The Emergency Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the project cycle, from project design and proposal drafting to operational monitoring of emergency activities related to the Ukrainian crisis. This position also includes managing Basic Needs, Cash, and Emergency Project Managers, supporting them in their activities, and contributing to the improvement of SI's methods and techniques in the field. The emergency sector encompasses all distribution activities aimed at providing assistance to affected populations, including those displaced by conflict or natural disasters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Emergency Coordinator's duties include:
  • Designing and proposing an operational emergency strategy for Ukraine.
  • Ensuring the quality and suitability of operational approaches.
  • Overseeing the project cycle from design to monitoring.
  • Managing and supporting Basic Needs, Cash, and Emergency Project Managers.
  • Contributing to the capitalization and improvement of SI's methods and techniques.
  • Coordinating emergency response activities, including in-kind, cash, or voucher distributions.
  • Addressing unpredictable natural or man-made events that may increase humanitarian needs.
  • Opening new operational areas and leading teams in challenging environments.
  • Reviewing and suggesting emergency response strategies for various regions. 1
  • Supporting proposal and reporting processes for specific projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field. A first experience in an information management position is required, and experience with Solidarités International is highly desirable. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector and 0-2 years in a similar position. Technical skills required include an understanding of the humanitarian coordination structure, knowledge of technical indicators for response concerning Sphere and other standards, and strong skills in conducting multisectoral assessments. Transversal skills such as autonomy, proactivity, and the ability to work under pressure are also essential.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. The educational background should be aligned with the responsibilities of the Emergency Coordinator role, emphasizing humanitarian aid, emergency response, or related disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 0-2 years in a similar role. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in emergency response and coordination, demonstrating the ability to manage projects and lead teams effectively in challenging environments.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French and Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities in diverse operational contexts.

  • The role is based in N'Djamena, where the living conditions include shared accommodation with 24/7 electricity and internet access. The salary starts from EUR 2860 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation costs and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, with an additional rest day for each month worked. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
