Job Overview: The Field Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the Land and Trust-Building Engagement in the Northern & Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka (LANTERN) project. This position involves coordinating with various stakeholders, including government and non-governmental organizations, to facilitate consultations and ensure effective project execution. The Field Coordinator will support the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) by assisting in data management, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation processes. The role requires a proactive approach to address the challenges faced by conflict-affected communities in reclaiming land and rebuilding livelihoods, ultimately contributing to social cohesion and inclusive development in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the operationalization of the LANTERN project in the Eastern Province, which includes facilitating consultations with key stakeholders such as the Chief Secretary and District Secretary. The coordinator will assist the PIU in submitting timely progress reports, conducting field assessments, and organizing training programs. They will also be tasked with reviewing project agreements, tracking resource utilization, and ensuring stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the coordinator will support the development of monitoring and evaluation systems, assist in data collection and analysis, and maintain accurate project documentation. Administrative responsibilities include managing project files, liaising with the operations team, and providing logistical support for meetings and training sessions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A solid understanding of project management principles and experience in monitoring and evaluation are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and professionalism in their approach to problem-solving and decision-making. Familiarity with the socio-political context of Sri Lanka, particularly in relation to land issues and community development, will be advantageous.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of governance, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in project coordination, preferably within the context of development programs or humanitarian assistance. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations in Sri Lanka is highly desirable. Familiarity with land rights issues and conflict resolution processes will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages such as Sinhala or Tamil will be considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and candidates will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position may involve travel within Sri Lanka, particularly to the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The UN Volunteer will receive a monthly stipend and other entitlements as per the UNV Conditions of Service.
