Job Overview:

  • The intern will work under the supervision of the Development Coordination Officer and the Data Management and Results Monitoring Officer. The primary functions of this role include supporting research and analysis on economic and sustainable development issues that are linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national priorities. This encompasses a wide range of topics such as poverty, inequality, economic growth, macroeconomic and fiscal policies, social protection, economic transformation, and climate change. The intern will also be involved in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data from various national and international sources, preparing policy briefs and analytical products, maintaining databases, and contributing to data quality checks. Additionally, the intern will assist in the preparation of data visualizations and communication materials tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences, as well as coordinating selected activities such as meetings and workshops. Participation in team meetings and other relevant activities of the Resident Coordinator’s Office is also expected, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a professional setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: supporting research and analysis on economic and sustainable development issues; collecting and organizing data from various sources; preparing policy briefs, country notes, and presentations; maintaining databases and monitoring tools; contributing to data quality checks; preparing data visualizations and communication materials; coordinating activities such as meetings and workshops; participating in team meetings; assisting in project management; monitoring and analyzing economic trends; promoting data collection; developing reports and presentations; and participating in training and awareness activities. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in economic development research and project management within the context of the United Nations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Public Policy, International Development, or a related field. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent), or be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). Desirable qualifications include strong quantitative and analytical skills, proficiency in Excel and at least one data analysis or visualization tool (such as Power BI, Tableau, R, STATA, or similar), and the ability to apply development economics theory to specific country contexts.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Public Policy, or International Development. Candidates should have a solid understanding of economic principles and data analysis techniques, which are essential for supporting the various functions of the Resident Coordinator Office.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates are expected to have a foundational understanding of economic and development issues, as well as familiarity with data analysis and research methodologies. Experience in internships or academic projects related to economics or public policy will be advantageous, but the primary focus is on candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to the work of the United Nations.

Languages:
