Job Overview:
The consultant will be responsible for documenting, developing, designing, and publishing a high-quality Change Stories Booklet for the PROSPECTS I-IV Project. This project aims to capture and synthesize impactful stories that showcase the program's transformational effects on youth, communities, and systems across Liberia. The consultant will work remotely with a team of enumerators, who are former PROSPECTS staff, to identify and document stories from project participants across various counties. The overall objective is to produce a professionally designed booklet that illustrates the achievements, lessons learned, and transformative impacts of the PROSPECTS program from 2013 to 202
  • Specific objectives include developing a standardized story of change template, training enumerators on ethical story collection, guiding them in capturing beneficiary stories, synthesizing raw documentation into compelling narratives, and designing a visually appealing booklet that adheres to Mercy Corps branding guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key activities, including:
  • Inception Phase: Reviewing PROSPECTS I-IV program documents, conducting meetings with the Mercy Corps team, and developing an inception report that includes the story collection methodology, enumerator training plan, story-of-change template, workplan, and timeline.
  • Enumerator Support & Story Collection: Remotely supporting enumerators to identify a diverse cohort of beneficiaries across counties and program phases, conducting interviews, and gathering story materials while ensuring ethical standards and gender sensitivity.
  • Story Synthesis and Writing: Reviewing and analyzing story submissions, selecting strong representative stories, editing and refining them into compelling narratives, and ensuring alignment with program objectives and donor requirements.
  • Booklet Design, Validation, & Finalization: Designing a 25-35 page professionally formatted booklet, incorporating high-quality photographs and infographics, applying Mercy Corps branding guidelines, presenting drafts for review, and producing final versions in all required formats.

Required Qualifications:
The consultant should possess a strong background in storytelling, documentation, and design, with proven experience in developing similar materials for humanitarian or development programs. They should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Familiarity with ethical storytelling practices, particularly in relation to vulnerable populations, is essential. The consultant should also demonstrate a strong understanding of the socio-economic context of Liberia and the challenges faced by youth and marginalized groups.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The consultant should have formal training in storytelling, documentation, or a related area, as well as experience in graphic design or publication layout.

Experience:
The consultant should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in storytelling, documentation, and publication design, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector. Experience working with youth and marginalized communities in Liberia or similar contexts is highly desirable. The consultant should also have a track record of producing high-quality publications and materials that effectively communicate program impacts and lessons learned.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Proficiency in local languages spoken in the project areas (such as Kpelle, Bassa, or others) would be considered an asset, as it may enhance the consultant's ability to engage with beneficiaries and gather stories effectively.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to last for one month, starting on April 20, 2026, and concluding on May 20, 202
  • The consultant will work remotely and will be compensated at a daily rate of $350 for an estimated 16 days of effort.
