The position of Economist/Sr. Economist within the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) at the IMF involves engaging with complex fiscal issues related to public expenditure. The selected candidate will work in the Expenditure Policy Division (EPD), which is responsible for policy development, research, and providing operational support to member countries. The role requires a deep understanding of various public expenditure policy issues, including public expenditure efficiency, the distributional impact of fiscal policies, and macro-fiscal sustainability. The candidate will contribute to analytical and technical assistance work, focusing on public investment, the public wage bill, education, health, social protection, subsidies, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Strong specialist skills in one of these areas will be advantageous, and the candidate is expected to have a solid research or operational background in public spending issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Economist/Sr. Economist include conducting in-depth analysis of public expenditure policies, providing technical assistance to member countries, and developing policy recommendations based on research findings. The candidate will be expected to prepare written publications, papers, and reports on fiscal issues, engage in discussions with stakeholders, and present findings to various audiences. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with other departments within the IMF and contributing to the development of training materials and workshops for member countries. The candidate will also be required to stay updated on global fiscal trends and contribute to the IMF's knowledge base on public expenditure.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, public policy, or a relevant field. A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience is required, with a strong emphasis on public spending issues. The successful candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of written publications and research in the field of fiscal policy. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential, and the ability to communicate in Spanish and/or French is desirable but not mandatory. A willingness to travel is also a requirement for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in economics, public policy, or a closely related field. This advanced degree should provide the candidate with a strong theoretical foundation in economic principles, fiscal policy, and public finance, equipping them with the necessary skills to analyze complex fiscal issues and contribute to policy development.

Experience:
The position requires at least four years of relevant professional experience in the field of public expenditure or fiscal policy. This experience should include a combination of research, analysis, and practical application of fiscal policies in various contexts. Languages:
