Job Overview:
The Nutrition UN Volunteer position is designed to support UNICEF's nutrition program in the Papua region of Indonesia. The role involves assisting in the implementation and monitoring of various nutrition initiatives aimed at addressing malnutrition among children and women. The volunteer will work closely with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery. This includes conducting field visits, participating in consultations, and providing technical support to enhance the capacity of local partners. The volunteer will also contribute to evidence generation and advocacy efforts to strengthen nutrition interventions, ensuring that they are responsive to the needs of the population. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nutrition UN Volunteer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
  • Supporting the implementation of UNICEF's nutrition program in the Papua region, focusing on the four nutrition program pillars: maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN), school-age and adolescent nutrition, food systems, and integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM).
  • Assisting in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and coordination by organizing consultations and meetings with government counterparts and partners.
  • Conducting regular field visits and assessments at health facilities, schools, and communities to track program progress and provide technical support.
  • Identifying implementation bottlenecks and operational challenges, and contributing to practical solutions.
  • Providing technical and operational support to government counterparts and civil society organizations throughout the programming process.
  • Supporting evidence generation and the development of strategies and results-based plans through analysis of the nutrition situation in Papua.
  • Documenting program results and contributing to knowledge management and advocacy efforts.
  • Engaging in community outreach and promoting voluntary action through engagement with local communities.
  • Completing program documentation and ensuring compliance with UNICEF procedures and systems. 1
  • Contributing to ad hoc tasks or special assignments as requested by the Nutrition Officer or supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Nutrition UN Volunteer position should possess a strong understanding of nutrition and public health principles, particularly as they relate to children and women. They should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information into actionable recommendations are essential. Additionally, candidates should exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable presenting information to various audiences. Educational Background:

Languages:
Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UNICEF. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Papua would be an asset, as it would facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The position offers a Volunteer Living Allowance to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are provided, along with a resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The living conditions in Jayapura are relatively good compared to more remote areas, but the volunteer should be prepared for occasional disruptions in utilities and services.
