Job Overview: The EpiC Burkina Faso Project Director is responsible for providing overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for the EpiC project in Burkina Faso. This role involves overseeing the implementation of the EpiC HIV, Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS), Maternal and Child Health (MCH), and nutrition portfolio within the country. The Project Director will ensure that project goals and objectives are met within the designated time frame and budget. They will act as the primary contact for EpiC activities in Burkina Faso, providing both technical and management leadership to ensure successful implementation of the work plan, monitoring expenditures in line with the approved budget, and achieving project targets. The position requires coordination with a diverse group of stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, government officials, health staff, and donor representatives. The Project Director will work closely with the EpiC headquarters team to plan and direct project implementation, ensuring that all activities are completed on schedule and within budget constraints.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Director will be accountable for directing the overall project vision, design, planning, and implementation. They will ensure that internal management systems for contracting, recruitment, and service delivery are effective and responsive to on-the-ground demands. The role includes fostering innovation and developing cost-efficient strategies to reach key populations and retain them in services. The Project Director will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with stakeholders, ensuring that targets agreed upon with US Government funding agencies are met on time and within budget. They will supervise technical, management, and operations staff, ensuring that activities meet expected quality standards and are delivered on schedule. The Project Director will also oversee monitoring and evaluation systems, guide capacity-building initiatives, represent the project at various levels, and support the professional development of the project team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices. They should demonstrate excellent project management skills, strong oral and written communication abilities, and critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ability to motivate and collaborate with others, build positive relationships with stakeholders, and manage resources effectively is essential. Candidates should also have experience in managing large, complex health projects and establishing partnerships with major stakeholders.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, or Youth is required. A master's degree is preferred, along with Project Management (PM) Certification.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices, including a minimum of 5 years in line management. Experience in managing large health projects, particularly those supported by USAID and PEPFAR, is preferred. Candidates should have a proven track record in strategic planning, staff development, and capacity building, as well as experience in working in insecure environments and with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak both languages proficiently. Additional language skills may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is contingent on project award and is open to Burkinabé nationals, residents of Burkina Faso with independent work authorization, and third country national locals. The expected hiring range for this role is CFA 25,000,000 to 35,000,000 annually for basic salary.
