Job Overview:
The Deputy Country Representative is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Country Programme in Tanzania, reporting directly to the Country Representative. This role involves significant contributions to the design, implementation, management, and oversight of the country programme, ensuring effective delivery of results as outlined in UN Women’s Strategic Plan. The incumbent will manage the programme team, oversee the preparation of implementation progress reports, and provide advisory support on strategic directions. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities and partners, to advance gender equality initiatives and ensure compliance with UN Women’s policies and frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Country Representative will manage the programme team, overseeing the finalization of annual work plans and the day-to-day operations of the programme. Responsibilities include leading the programme conceptualization, planning, implementation, and monitoring processes, as well as managing material and financial resources. The incumbent will prepare progress reports, provide technical support for the development of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security strategies, and advise the Country Representative on strategic areas. Additionally, the role involves representing UN Women in UN system coordination, supporting advocacy strategies, and facilitating knowledge management and capacity building initiatives. The Deputy Country Representative will also manage personnel under supervision, ensuring performance assessments are conducted timely and creating an enabling work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in international development, public administration, public policy, or other relevant social science fields. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification, such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®, is considered an advantage. The role requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in development programmes, with a strong focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment, preferably within the UN system. Field-based experience with multicultural teams and experience in leading and coaching staff in international settings are essential. Proficiency in computer applications and web-based management systems is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as international development, public administration, or public policy. Alternatively, a first-level university degree along with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Candidates with project/programme management certifications will have an added advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience that combines strategic and managerial leadership in development programmes, particularly with a focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Experience should ideally be at the international level, preferably in developing countries, and within the UN system or related agencies. Field-based experience working with multicultural teams is essential, along with a proven track record in leading and coaching staff in international settings.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and would enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The position is full-time and involves leading a team of 20 personnel, including 5 direct reports and 15 affiliate personnel.
