Job Overview: The Programme Support and intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will play a vital role in supporting UNEP's Disasters and Conflicts Programme, which focuses on providing technical assistance and capacity development for environmental policy implementation in areas affected by conflicts or disasters. The intern will work under the supervision of the Somalia Project Manager and will be responsible for various tasks that contribute to the program's objectives. This includes assisting in research and reporting, supporting communications and outreach activities, participating in events and meetings, and providing general support to the team. Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and Reporting: The intern will assist in preparing reports, briefing notes, talking points, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders. They will also draft and edit desk-based research, written reports, policy briefs, and concept notes, focusing on topics such as climate security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and environmental governance in Somalia. Additionally, the intern will help develop, review, and monitor project workplans, supporting data collection and analysis to track project outcomes and indicators for effective monitoring and evaluation.
Communications Support: The intern will support communications and outreach activities by drafting newsletters, web stories, and social media content that highlight project milestones. They will also draft content for reports, publications, and events related to environmental governance and climate security in Somalia, and assist in graphic design for data visualizations, infographics, and factsheets.
Event and Meeting Participation: The intern will provide administrative and substantive support to meetings and events, including taking minutes and contributing to the organization of meetings, workshops, and field visits. They will assist with logistical arrangements and documentation of proceedings involving government and regional entities, and attend project meetings to contribute to reporting processes.
General Support: The intern will assist with logistics, scheduling, and coordination of team engagement and meetings. They will provide day-to-day program and project management support, including planning, coordination, and follow-up with partners. The intern will engage with Somali and international partners, as well as colleagues from across UNEP, on project activities and undertake other tasks as needed to support the team’s objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program, with at least one year of experience in international development, environmental governance and peacebuilding, conflict studies, environmental studies, climate change, public policy, project management, or a related field. While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the application.
