Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for the Sustainable Energy Hub involves supporting the development of a centralized Photo Bank, which is essential for the Hub's communications and outreach efforts. Volunteers will play a crucial role in enhancing the visual library by uploading, tagging, and organizing images on the Piwigo platform. This role is structured into three phases, where volunteers will first conduct a quality assurance review of the existing photo bank, ensuring that all metadata is accurate and consistent. In the second phase, volunteers will apply curated photos to the Sustainable Energy Academy slides in Figma, maintaining a clear link between the visual assets and their metadata. Finally, volunteers will source and upload additional high-quality stock images, contributing to the expansion of the photo bank. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with professionals in the energy sector and gain insights into visual communication and sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a quality assurance review of the existing photo bank on Piwigo, verifying and correcting metadata such as author credits, licensing information, descriptions, and tags.
  • Ensure that all metadata is accurate, consistent, and formatted according to the taxonomy provided by the Sustainable Energy Hub team.
  • Apply curated photos to the Sustainable Energy Academy slides in Figma, ensuring that each image's Piwigo ID is used as the corresponding Figma layer name.
  • Check that all images display correctly without distortion in the Figma slides.
  • Source, upload, and tag a minimum of 200 additional high-quality images from assigned regions and themes to expand the photo bank.
  • Document all newly sourced images in a shared metadata tracking sheet, maintaining consistent formatting and organization across all records.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and UNDP professionals during weekly meetings to discuss progress and share insights.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in metadata management.
  • Familiarity with photo editing and cataloguing software, particularly Piwigo and Figma.
  • Basic understanding of visual communication principles and sustainable development concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, media studies, environmental science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in sustainable development and visual communication.

Experience:
Previous experience in photo editing, cataloguing, or working with visual assets is advantageous but not required. Volunteers should be comfortable using digital platforms and have a willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and processes.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the UNDP regions may be beneficial but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position with no financial compensation. The role is fully remote, allowing for flexible working hours. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with UNDP professionals and gain valuable experience in the field of sustainable energy and visual communication.
