Job Overview:
The Field Coordinator will oversee the management of projects in Sobat, focusing on emergency and early recovery WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programming and emergency security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) support. This role includes acting as the delegated director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for the region, proposing a regional strategy based on the geopolitical and humanitarian context, and ensuring its implementation. The Field Coordinator is responsible for mobilizing necessary resources, supervising resource management, coordinating teams, and ensuring their security. The position requires engagement with various stakeholders, including authorities, communities, NGOs, and UN agencies, to ensure a coordinated approach in areas where SI operates. The Field Coordinator will also need to navigate significant challenges, including security concerns, logistical issues, and the need to resume activities following an evacuation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Coordinator's duties include:
  • Managing and overseeing the implementation of WASH and FSL projects in Sobat.
  • Proposing and implementing a regional strategy aligned with the humanitarian context.
  • Ensuring compliance with SI's charter and internal procedures.
  • Mobilizing and managing material and financial resources for program execution.
  • Coordinating and supervising the safety and security of team members in the assigned area.
  • Acting as the primary contact for the Country Director and representing SI in the region.
  • Leading engagement with local authorities, communities, and other stakeholders to facilitate a coordinated response.
  • Addressing security and access challenges, including establishing operational bases and ensuring effective communication in volatile environments.
  • Developing intervention modalities and resuming activities post-evacuation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least 3-4 years in similar positions. Candidates should demonstrate strong team management and mentoring skills, the ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments, and effective workload management. Good representational skills and a solid understanding of security management are essential. Familiarity with humanitarian issues, including IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) and camp management, is also required. Candidates should be able to produce quality reports in English.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, or management is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effectively managing projects in challenging environments.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3-4 years in roles similar to that of a Field Coordinator. This experience should include managing teams and projects in emergency settings, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex humanitarian challenges and lead effective responses.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this role. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a short-term contract position with a duration of 3 months, starting as soon as possible. The role is based in Sobat, South Sudan, where living conditions may be challenging and remote. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3080, a monthly per diem of USD 700, and coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Breaks are provided every three months, along with additional rest days. Expatriates will receive a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Candidates should be prepared for a volatile security context and the possibility of living in basic conditions.
