Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Human Rights Monitoring at the OHCHR Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa involves assisting in the research and analysis of human rights violations. The volunteer will work closely with legal reporting officers and desk officers to conduct open-source research on specific human rights topics or incidents. The role requires preparing concise weekly summaries that highlight key findings, trends, and sources related to human rights issues. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare short weekly summaries (1–2 pages) that highlight key findings, trends, and sources related to human rights violations.
  • Assist in the monitoring and reporting of human rights situations in the region.
  • Engage in discussions and provide insights on emerging human rights challenges.
  • Support the development of training modules and awareness-raising sessions on human rights issues.
  • Contribute to the overall capacity-building efforts of the Regional Office.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong interest in human rights issues and a commitment to promoting and protecting human rights.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information from various sources.
  • Proficiency in using online research tools and databases.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with international human rights instruments and mechanisms is an asset.

Educational Background:
A background in law, international relations, human rights, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of human rights principles and frameworks, as well as the ability to engage critically with complex issues.

Experience:
