Job Overview:
The K9 Caretaker position is crucial for ensuring the health and well-being of canines under the supervision of the Chief of the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Safety Service. The role involves comprehensive care for the dogs, including monitoring their health, feeding, and maintaining cleanliness in their living environment. The caretaker will collaborate with Security officers in the Canine Unit to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of the dogs. This position is expected to contribute significantly to the overall security framework by ensuring that the K9 dogs are healthy, well-cared for, and ready for their duties. The caretaker must be dedicated to treating the animals with kindness and respect, fostering a positive environment for both the dogs and the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The K9 Caretaker will be responsible for a variety of essential duties, including: feeding the dogs and monitoring their eating habits, reporting any fluctuations in appetite; cleaning kennels, crates, runs, and dishes, as well as performing general cleaning duties as assigned; bathing and brushing the dogs when necessary; promptly scooping and disposing of dog waste; mopping up accidents immediately; dust mopping and wet mopping floors as assigned; removing trash from containers; disinfecting outside areas; and following all procedures and protocols to minimize cross-contamination and enhance overall health. The caretaker will work closely with the canine Supervisor and Officers to improve the physical and emotional well-being of the dogs, ensuring they are treated with kindness and respect at all times.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma and have a minimum of one year of previous work experience, preferably in a cleaning service role within the United Nations or a similar organization. Previous experience in animal care is considered an advantage. The ideal candidate should demonstrate good oral communication skills, be self-motivated, and capable of working independently. A proven ability to follow instructions and learn new tasks is essential, along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Flexibility and strong coping skills are also important, as the caretaker must be willing to work on weekends and holidays.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. This foundational education is essential for understanding the basic responsibilities of the role and for effective communication within the team and with other staff members.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally include providing cleaning services, with a preference for candidates who have worked in a UN environment. Additionally, any experience related to animal care will be beneficial and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
