Job Overview:
The Economic Recovery Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of DRC's Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) program in Gusau, Zamfara State. This position involves liaising with various stakeholders and coordinating with different departments to enhance beneficiaries' livelihoods through the provision of information, cash assistance, and complementary nutrition activities. The assistant will be responsible for ensuring that cash distributions are conducted smoothly and that beneficiaries are adequately supported and informed. The role also includes organizing training sessions for beneficiaries to improve their business skills and providing market insights to help them develop their businesses. The assistant will supervise nutrition activities and community volunteers, ensuring that all project activities are documented and reported accurately. Overall, the position aims to strengthen the economic recovery of affected populations while promoting protection and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Economic Recovery Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the implementation of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) modalities, including unconditional and conditional cash grants, vouchers, and Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA).
  • Screening, selecting, and verifying beneficiaries according to project targeting criteria.
  • Managing the cash distribution process, ensuring that minimum standards for safety and accountability are met.
  • Organizing and delivering small business training and business planning sessions for beneficiaries.
  • Providing market price information and advising beneficiaries on business development opportunities.
  • Conducting training and sensitization on complementary nutrition topics, including diet diversity and infant feeding practices.
  • Supervising nutrition activities, including training, malnutrition screening, monitoring, referrals, and reporting.
  • Planning, supervising, and monitoring training and awareness sessions, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Supporting logistics and organization for trainings, distributions, and other project events. 1
  • Conducting post-distribution monitoring and follow-up visits to assess impact and address issues. 1
  • Maintaining accurate records for timely internal and donor reporting. 1
  • Submitting weekly field updates and contributing to monthly reports. 1
  • Promoting protection, inclusion, and accountability to affected populations in all activities. 1
  • Coordinating with local authorities, partners, and extension services to ensure smooth implementation of activities. 1
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of working experience in Cash and Voucher Assistance programming, particularly in humanitarian contexts.
  • Experience working with displaced populations in Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Adamawa, or Yobe states.
  • Strong understanding of the local context in North-East/North-West Nigeria is desirable.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, especially Microsoft Office applications, is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a University Degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Social Sciences, Economics, Business Studies, Languages, or any other related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the socio-economic dynamics that affect the target populations and for effectively implementing the economic recovery programs.

Experience:
The role requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in Cash and Voucher Assistance programming. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in humanitarian settings, particularly with displaced populations. Experience in implementing economic recovery programs and familiarity with the challenges faced by communities in conflict-affected areas will be highly advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in local spoken languages is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with beneficiaries and local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a national contract with an employment period of 12 months. The role is classified as non-management and is part of a humanitarian response team.
