Job Overview: The position of G4 - Senior Driver - Protocol and Admin Clerk at UNFPA Libya Country Office in Tripoli is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the Representative, team members, and visitors. This role also encompasses administrative and clerical support, requiring a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a client-oriented approach, demonstrating courtesy and tact while working with individuals from various national and cultural backgrounds. The position involves not only driving but also managing vehicle maintenance, assisting with administrative tasks, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and protocols. The driver will report directly to the International Operations Analyst and will play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of the office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provision of Reliable and Safe Driving Services: The driver will be responsible for transporting the Regional Director, high-ranking officials, and visitors safely and efficiently. This includes managing the delivery and collection of mail and documentation, meeting official personnel at the airport, and handling visa and customs formalities as needed. The driver must stay informed about traffic and road conditions to ensure timely arrivals for meetings, manage all aspects of vehicle maintenance, conduct minor repairs, and arrange for major repairs when necessary. Daily vehicle logs must be maintained, and the driver will assist in preparing vehicle maintenance plans and history reports. Additionally, the driver will keep track of insurance and tax formalities and may act as a translator for the Regional Director and official passengers when required. The driver will also guide and coach junior drivers and serve as a backup for the G2 Driver during their absence.
Provision of Administrative and Clerical Support: The driver will manage air conditioning maintenance services and supervise company staff during service provision. They will assist the Admin associate with asset verification exercises, act as a petty cash custodian in Tripoli, liaise with relevant authorities for airport access cards, and provide logistical support for operations workshops. The driver will assist the ICT Specialist with equipment installation or dismantling as needed, monitor building and facility maintenance issues, and assess the need for repairs. They will also assist the Operations team with administrative tasks, liaising with authorities, and obtaining documentation for vehicle purchases and local tax issues. Finally, the driver will help the Finance Associate maintain complete records for fuel-related vouchers as required.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess completed Secondary Education or a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree and at least one year of experience in driving within an international organization, embassy, or UN system are preferred. A safe driving record is essential, along with knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills. Skills in minor vehicle repairs and experience in administrative or clerical support work in an office setting are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed Secondary Education or a high school diploma. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, especially for those with less experience in driving roles. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong understanding of the responsibilities associated with driving and administrative support in a professional environment.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of work experience as a driver, particularly in an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree should have at least one year of relevant driving experience. A proven safe driving record is mandatory, along with experience in administrative and clerical support work.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and a working knowledge of English is required. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
