Job Overview:
The (Senior) Industry Specialist - Gas & LNG position is a critical role within the World Bank Group's Infrastructure VPU, which provides investment and advisory services across various sectors, including energy. The selected candidate will be responsible for offering expert technical and market advice on gas and LNG opportunities, such as floating storage regasification units (FSRU), gas pipelines, distribution networks, gas processing, and gas flare reduction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of the gas and LNG sectors, as well as the ability to collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality reviews and appraisals for potential projects. The specialist will also engage in market analysis, contribute to sector strategies, and build relationships with key stakeholders to promote IFC's role in the global gas and LNG sectors. The position is designed for an experienced professional who can navigate complex investment decisions and provide valuable insights into emerging trends and technologies in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the (Senior) Industry Specialist include:
  • Supporting IFC’s investment decision-making process by providing technical and techno-commercial expertise for the appraisal of gas and LNG investment transactions, which may involve site visits, hiring and supervising external consultants, reviewing major contracts, and preparing reports that summarize and assess technical risks.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including investment officers, task team leaders, environmental and social specialists, and legal counsel, to ensure high-quality reviews and recommendations for potential WBG projects.
  • Monitoring technical aspects of portfolio gas and LNG investments throughout construction and operation, including reviewing periodic reports and conducting field inspections to address specific issues.
  • Conducting market analysis and providing thought leadership on trends, technologies, and policies in the gas and LNG industries, contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives within WBG and externally.
  • Contributing to the development and execution of WBG’s sector strategies, integrating gas and LNG solutions into broader energy transition and climate resilience frameworks.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including private sector clients, government agencies, and development partners, to promote IFC’s role in the global gas and LNG sectors.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the (Senior) Industry Specialist position include:
  • An advanced degree (master’s or higher) in engineering or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the global gas and LNG sector, including senior roles within an International Oil Company (IOC) or an engineering consultancy, with a proven track record of delivering impactful results in various locations, particularly in developing economies.
  • Strong technical knowledge of gas and LNG infrastructure, supply chains, and emerging technologies, along with expertise in project development and project finance.
  • Familiarity with commercial and contractual norms related to gas and LNG supply, including various agreements and contracts, and an understanding of how technical aspects relate to pricing.
  • High-level knowledge of trends in global LNG and regional gas markets, particularly regarding gas-fired power generation in competitive markets.
  • Experience with competitive fuel analysis across various hydrocarbons used in power generation.
  • A commitment to sustainability and climate goals, with a deep understanding of the role of gas and LNG in the energy transition.
  • The ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver high-quality work on schedule, as well as the capacity to work successfully in multicultural teams.
  • A highly motivated and proactive approach, with a commitment to the highest ethical standards. 1

Educational Background:
