Job Overview:
The Economist position at the IMF Resident Representative Office for Iraq and Yemen involves supporting the Head of Office and mission team through various analytical tasks. The role requires performing economic analysis, evaluating and monitoring economic developments, and assisting in policy and design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design. The Economist will also engage with authorities, monitor meetings, and respond to emerging economic issues. This position demands a proactive approach to developing and maintaining comprehensive databases related to the economy of the assigned country. The Economist will work independently under the supervision of the Head of Office and is expected to substitute for team members during absences or heavy workloads, showcasing flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Economist will undertake systematic monitoring, assessment, and evaluation of economic and political developments in the country of operation. Key responsibilities include identifying economic problems for discussion, providing accurate information for country surveillance, and developing databases. The Economist will collect and analyze data, prepare written and statistical outputs, and contribute to institutional capacity building by monitoring technical assistance provided by the Fund. Building effective relationships with national technical staff, donor institutions, and other organizations is crucial. The Economist will assist visiting mission staff in data collection and analysis, prepare program notes for missions, and participate in missions to exchange information with government and private sector officials. Coordination with the Communications Office regarding outreach strategies is also part of the role.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in macroeconomics, financial economics, or related fields such as international economics, monetary economics, public finance, econometrics, labor economics, political economy, or international trade and finance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Additionally, candidates should have five or more years of relevant work experience in areas such as econometrics, statistics, or finance. Proficiency in software applications, particularly Excel and econometrics packages like TSP, EViews, AREMOS, SAS, and RATS, is required, along with a solid understanding of statistical techniques and macroeconomic relationships.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as macroeconomics, financial economics, or other related disciplines. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and skills in economic analysis and related areas, which are essential for the role of an Economist at the IMF.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally be in fields such as econometrics, statistics, or finance, demonstrating the candidate's ability to perform complex economic analyses and contribute effectively to the IMF's mission. Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a one-year local contractual appointment, with the possibility of renewal for successive terms of up to three years, contingent on continued need and satisfactory performance. Candidates must be nationals or residents of Jordan or must be able to independently obtain a valid work permit before starting employment. The IMF will not sponsor or assist with obtaining work permits, and proof of nationality, residency, and/or work authorization will be required prior to starting employment.
