Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Special Assistant will work within UNEP's Chief Digital Office, which is dedicated to enhancing the organization's digital transformation efforts. This role is crucial in responding to the evolving digital landscape and the needs of UNEP's partners, including governments, businesses, and civil society. The Special Assistant will support the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) in managing daily priorities, stakeholder engagements, and strategic research activities related to artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and environmental sustainability. The position aims to improve internal coordination, prepare for high-level engagements, and analyze emerging digital trends and policy developments, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of UNEP's digital initiatives and its mission to address critical environmental challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer Special Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the UNEP Chief Digital Officer. Key responsibilities include providing logistical and analytical support for organizing meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations. The assistant will prepare documents, hold pre-meetings, draft conclusions and summaries, and deliver presentations as required. Additionally, the role involves generating talking points, speech inputs, and other documentation for the CDO, setting up meetings and teleconferences, and managing the CDO's daily agenda and activities. The assistant will also track communications and special requests from the CDO, ensuring they are handled appropriately. Furthermore, the role includes supporting strategic research and analysis on key trends in AI, digital technologies, and sustainability, as well as monitoring national, regional, and global policy discourses relevant to UNEP's digital agenda.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer Special Assistant position should possess strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. They should demonstrate integrity, adaptability, creativity, and sound judgment in decision-making. Excellent planning and organizing skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment. Familiarity with digital technologies and sustainability issues is highly desirable, as is experience in supporting high-level engagements and stakeholder consultations.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, information technology, public administration, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, or sustainability will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles of environmental governance and sustainable development.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in administrative support, project management, or research roles, preferably within an international organization or a similar environment. Experience in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, or sustainability initiatives will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of effectively supporting senior management and engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNEP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, would be considered an asset, as it would enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the assignment will be specified upon selection. The role is full-time and based in Nairobi, Kenya. The UNV will be expected to engage actively in volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.
