Job Overview: The position of Individual Contractor for Multimedia Content Production involves producing and submitting a maximum of twenty approved packages of multimedia content in the Portuguese language. The contractor will be expected to work closely with the relevant Unit Chief to plan and produce quality multimedia content that resonates with the target audience in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region. The expected duration of this contract is a maximum of six months, during which the contractor will engage in various storytelling approaches suitable for news and social media platforms, ensuring that the content aligns with UN priorities and campaigns.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Individual Contractor shall perform a variety of duties, including: liaising with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan the production of quality multimedia content; pitching story ideas and agreeing on timelines and content to be produced; researching content from verifiable sources and writing stories and scripts; editing and creating multimedia stories for UN News language platforms; coordinating technical arrangements and organizing interviews in the countries of assignment; following UN News guidelines to ensure editorial clarity and sound political judgment; ensuring due diligence regarding permissions and copyright; and possessing well-rounded experience in broadcast/digital journalism and multimedia production. The contractor may also be required to provide references and work samples, and proof of registration/accreditation if required by local authorities.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field being desirable. A minimum of two years of experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s) is required, along with experience in the full range of multimedia production features. Desirable qualifications include experience in video production, filming and editing video material, recording and editing audio material, and digital content publishing, including the incorporation of photos and graphics.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred, indicating a foundational understanding of the principles and practices of media production and storytelling.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of two years of experience in broadcast or digital journalism, specifically in the assigned language(s). Candidates should have a proven track record in producing multimedia content, demonstrating their ability to create engaging and informative stories that align with the UN's mission and priorities. Experience in video production, including filming and editing, as well as audio recording and editing, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is required for this position, as these are the primary languages in which the contractor will be producing content. Knowledge of other UN official languages is considered an asset, enhancing the contractor's ability to engage with a broader audience and contribute to multilingual content production.
