Job Overview: The Senior Agribusiness Specialist position is a pivotal role within the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) at the World Bank. This position combines program coordination and technical functions, serving as the Deputy Coordinator for the GAFSP Coordination Unit. The Specialist will be responsible for strategy and partnerships, as well as leading the operational aspects of GAFSP’s Business Investment Financing Track. The role requires a deep understanding of agricultural systems and the ability to manage relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies, donor countries, and civil society organizations. The Specialist will support the Program Head in managing GAFSP’s internal operations, overseeing workstreams, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members. The position also involves resource mobilization efforts and the design and implementation of financing strategies to support smallholder farmers and improve food security in low-income countries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, food systems, and multilateral program management, with a proven ability to navigate complex partnerships and drive impactful initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the overall coordination of GAFSP’s internal operations and workstreams, including overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the GAFSP Coordination Unit (CU), preparing for Steering Committee meetings, and monitoring budget execution.
Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with existing and new partners, facilitating dialogues that align with GAFSP’s vision and objectives.
Design and implement the GAFSP Resource Mobilization Plan, ensuring effective communication and outreach to potential donors and partners.
Lead the Business Investment Financing Track, managing the end-to-end process of Calls for Proposals and ensuring alignment with GAFSP’s strategic goals.
Provide strategic and policy guidance on GAFSP programs, preparing documents for Steering Committee discussions and leading resource mobilization meetings.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of GAFSP initiatives and maintain high standards of quality and accountability in all deliverables.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in development economics, agriculture, international relations, or a related field. A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in agriculture, food systems, agribusiness, or multilateral program management is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, excellent project management capabilities, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of French or Spanish considered an asset. Technical competencies include strong analytical skills, experience in leading policy dialogue, and familiarity with financial intermediary fund management and operations.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in development economics, agriculture, international relations, or a related field is required for this position.
