Job Overview: The AMR Technical Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) activities under the STRIDES Jordan Activity. This position is vital for ensuring that AMR initiatives are executed effectively and in accordance with Jordan's National Action Plan on AMR. The officer will work closely with the AMR & IPC Advisor to provide both technical and operational support across various AMR workstreams. This includes the development of AMR-related tools and materials, coordination with government counterparts, and collaboration with implementing partners. The role also involves contributing to AMR surveillance strengthening, capacity building, donor reporting, and workplan tracking, ensuring that all project activities align with international best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The AMR Technical Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing technical support for the implementation of AMR activities in alignment with national guidelines; strengthening AMR surveillance systems through data collection, analysis, and reporting; assisting in the development and dissemination of AMR-related tools and training materials; monitoring and maintaining AMR project protocols and data sets; conducting literature searches on AMR and related public health issues; responding to technical inquiries from staff; tracking the delivery of AMR outputs against timelines; ensuring compliance with donor obligations; engaging with the Ministry of Health on AMR activities; coordinating with finance teams for budget implementation; drafting technical progress reports; preparing presentations on AMR progress; and contributing to the development of annual workplans and proposals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a working knowledge of AMR, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and related public health areas. Familiarity with the Global Action Plan on AMR and WHO AMR core components is essential. An understanding of Jordan's public health system and national AMR landscape is advantageous. Experience in supporting AMR programs and government counterparts in Jordan or the MENA region is preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills are required, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in MS Office and relevant data management tools is necessary, as well as the ability to analyze AMR laboratory data and prepare accurate reports.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Microbiology, Public Health, Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to AMR activities and public health initiatives.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in AMR, microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, or a related public health field. Candidates with experience providing technical support to AMR or health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security programs in Jordan or the MENA region will be given preference. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization, government agency, or private organization operating in the public health or global health security space is also beneficial.
Languages: Professional proficiency in both Arabic and English, written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with local stakeholders and for the dissemination of AMR-related information and materials.
