Job Overview: The Director, Resilience Builder will play a crucial role in supporting the strategic planning, communication, research, and implementation of program activities related to resilience practices within the World Wildlife Fund. This position involves collaborating with various WWF teams and field offices to enhance existing partnerships and develop new projects. The Director will be responsible for managing key projects, including capacity building and training initiatives, and will support the ongoing Environmental and Disaster Management (EDM) programmatic activities. This includes integrating environmental considerations into disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts and providing technical support for disaster and crisis response. The role requires a proactive approach to stay updated with emerging practices and to contribute to programmatic fundraising efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director will collaborate with the EDM team to set strategic directions and support the development of resilience practices related to conservation programming. Key responsibilities include leading project management efforts, which encompass work planning, monitoring, evaluation, and communication for ongoing projects and grants. The Director will coordinate with project personnel, grantees, and consultants to ensure effective implementation and reporting. Additionally, the role involves supporting WWF teams in crisis-affected countries by integrating disaster analysis services into resilience planning and DRR initiatives. The Director will also be responsible for designing training tools, documenting project learnings, and contributing to fundraising efforts by preparing project proposals and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. Travel up to 30% of the time to project sites is expected, along with regular presentations of program updates to both internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least 10 years of experience in relevant fields, including disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and disaster recovery. An advanced degree is required, along with strong project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and produce high-quality work under time constraints. The ideal candidate will have proven organizational and project leadership skills, along with experience in training and capacity building. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software is necessary, and preference will be given to candidates with GIS skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are also required.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, disaster management, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in areas related to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and disaster recovery. Candidates should have a strong track record of project management and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and preference will be given to candidates who are multilingual, particularly those who can communicate in French or Spanish. This linguistic capability will enhance collaboration with diverse stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a limited-term role lasting for 2 years, with a hybrid work structure requiring a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., and the position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. The salary range for this position is between $124,000 and $178,30
