Job Overview:
The Area Manager position is crucial for the implementation of Handicap International's mandate and its 10-year strategy within the country. Reporting to the Program Director, the Area Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and impact of projects implemented in the region. This role involves managing the team on-site, contributing to the development and implementation of the program's operational strategy, and ensuring that projects are executed effectively. The Area Manager will also play a key role in emergency preparedness and response, adapting to contextual changes and launching emergency interventions as necessary. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Area Manager will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Management of the on-site team, ensuring effective coordination and communication among team members.
  • Contributing to the development of the program's operational strategy and overseeing its implementation and annual monitoring.
  • Ensuring sound management and monitoring of projects under their responsibility, identifying potential opportunities and risks, and proposing mitigation measures.
  • Developing HI's external influence and representation in their area of responsibility, engaging in forums and forming operational and strategic alliances.
  • Supporting the Program Director in monitoring security in the area and ensuring adequate resources are allocated according to the context.
  • Preparing for and responding to emergencies, ensuring that the team is equipped to handle crises effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 3 years of professional experience in area, field, or project management within challenging humanitarian contexts. They should have experience working in complex and conflict-affected regions, along with proven managerial and security management experience. Familiarity with donor relations, external relations, fundraising, and strategic positioning is essential. Candidates should also have experience in designing and coordinating complex emergency interventions, as well as strong management and communication skills. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic is considered a plus. Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and a reactive approach are also required.

Educational Background:

  • The international contract offers various benefits, including social coverage adapted to the individual's situation, unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution. Repatriation insurance is provided by HI, and the salary starts at 2869€ gross per month, depending on experience. Additional financial benefits include a per diem of 702 € net per month, a hardship allowance of 500 € net per month, and 25 days of paid leave per year. The position is unaccompanied, and housing will be collectively provided by HI. For residents in the country, a local package will be offered.
