Job Overview:
The position of Intern - Human Rights Monitoring is designed for individuals who are keen to gain practical experience in the field of human rights, particularly in the context of Central Africa. The intern will work under the supervision of a Human Rights Officer and will be expected to assist in monitoring developments related to human rights, politics, and conflict in the region. This role involves a combination of research, analysis, and administrative tasks aimed at supporting the work of the Central Africa Regional Office. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the follow-up of human rights issues and cases in accordance with treaty body mechanisms and special procedures; preparing monthly reviews that summarize the human rights situation in the assigned region for inclusion in the office's reports; overseeing the maintenance and development of information and resource tools; contributing to the preparation of internal and external reports on the office's work; attending meetings and conferences to take notes as requested; assisting in organizing workshops and activities related to the office's work; familiarizing themselves with human rights mechanisms, conventions, and Human Rights Council procedures; and conducting political and legal analyses on specific topics relevant to the Central Africa Regional Office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, such as a Master’s degree or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to effectively contribute to the office's work.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background in fields related to human rights, international relations, law, or social sciences. A graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) is preferred, but candidates who are in the final stages of their undergraduate studies (Bachelor’s degree) may also be considered. This educational requirement ensures that the intern has a solid understanding of the principles and frameworks governing human rights and can apply this knowledge in a practical setting.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in human rights, research, or advocacy will be considered an asset. The internship is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field. Languages:
Fluency in English or French is required for this position, as these are the primary languages used in the office.
