Job Overview: The National Feminist Economist/Gender and Economics PolicyAnalyst will lead UN Women’s country programme on gender and economics in Cameroon. This position is crucial for implementing the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio, which focuses on empowering women economically and addressing gender disparities in economic participation. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Programme Management Specialist and collaborate closely with regional and country office teams to ensure the successful execution of the WEE initiatives. The role involves contributing to the development of gender-responsive economic programmes, managing the implementation of these programmes, providing technical expertise to partners, and building capacity among stakeholders. The position also requires establishing strategic partnerships and advocating for gender-responsive economic policies at the national level. The incumbent will be responsible for producing knowledge and communication products related to gender and economics, ensuring that the initiatives align with UN Women’s Strategic Plan and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute technically to the development of gender-responsive economic programmes by conducting research and formulating strategies to promote women's economic empowerment and gender-responsive economic reforms.
Manage the implementation of the gender and economics programme, including formulating annual work plans and budgets, ensuring synergies with other teams, and overseeing the submission of financial and narrative reports from implementing partners.
Provide substantive technical inputs to the management of people and finances of the programme, including monitoring budget implementation and supervising field personnel.
Offer technical expertise and assistance to partners, supporting governments and civil society in formulating and monitoring gender-responsive economic reforms.
Provide capacity-building support to the Country Office and partners, developing training modules and conducting capacity-building events for various stakeholders.
Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with national and local actors, implementing advocacy strategies to promote gender-responsive economic policies.
Oversee knowledge building and sharing for gender-responsive economic initiatives, participating in relevant communities of practice.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, macroeconomics, development economics, feminist economics, or a related field. A PhD in similar fields is considered an asset. Additionally, a project/programme management certification would be advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate excellent knowledge of gender and economic policy, with the ability to design and deliver training and capacity-building strategies in the area of gender and economics. Strong drafting skills and the ability to produce a variety of knowledge products for different audiences are essential. Experience using macroeconomic technical tools and producing impactful communications materials is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, macroeconomics, development economics, feminist economics, or any other relevant field of economics or public policy. A PhD in similar fields is an asset, and a project/programme management certification would be an added advantage.
Experience: At least 2 years of international experience in international development, specifically promoting policy reform in the area of gender and economics, including macroeconomic policy and women’s economic empowerment policies. Proven experience in gender analysis of the economy, both quantitative and qualitative, is required. Candidates should have experience in programme and policy analysis, strategic planning, and previous professional experience in developing and emerging economies. Experience working in West and Central Africa is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French is required for this position, while fluency in English is considered desirable. Proficiency in both languages will enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

The role may require international travel and participation in donor meetings and public information events.
