SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters for over 40 years. The organization focuses on meeting vital needs such as access to water, food, and shelter. SI is particularly committed to combating diseases related to unsafe water, which is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. SI operates in 26 countries with a total of 3,200 staff members, including expatriates, national employees, headquarters staff, and a few volunteers. The Burkina Faso mission was established in late 2018 to address the urgent needs of people displaced by the security crisis affecting the Sahel and Central North regions of Burkina Faso. As of 2024, SI's humanitarian footprint has expanded to include operations in the Koulsé, Liptako, Soum, Yaadga, Bankui, and Sourou regions. In July 2025, the Burkina Faso country office merged with the Mali office to form the Burkina Faso - Mali mission. By October 2025, the mission included a coordination office in Ouagadougou, two field bases, and various interventions in the regions of Bankui and Sourou, among others. SI has diversified its intervention portfolio to cover both the vital needs of recently displaced populations and the impact of conflict on access to public services and livelihoods, integrating institutional strengthening and social cohesion issues. Most projects are implemented in consortium with NGOs and some projects with local partners. SI is part of several consortia, including RRM-Frontline and the multisectoral health and nutrition response integrated into Yagha. The Burkina Faso - Mali mission has a budget volume of 12 million euros, primarily funded by ECHO, BHA, DDC, and FHRAOC, and works with local partners SOLIDEV and AFDR.

Job Overview:
The Grants Manager for the Burkina Faso/Mali mission will be based in Ouagadougou, with possible travel to Mali. The primary objective of this role is to manage grants effectively, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and enhancing the visibility of the organization. The Grants Manager will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing funding opportunities, overseeing project contracts, developing project proposals for secondary donors, coordinating reports, and managing communication and visibility strategies with the support of the coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Grants Coordinator. Specific challenges include addressing the recent merger of the Burkina Faso and Mali missions and the associated fundraising challenges, as well as strengthening the team's capacity in grants management, reporting, and communication. The first 2-3 months will focus on supporting the Grant Coordinator in project monitoring and the initiation of new projects, systematically implementing grant follow-up tools, ensuring all pending reports and tasks with local partners are completed, and taking full responsibility for the FHRAOC-funded project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Grants Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Monitoring and analyzing funding opportunities to identify potential sources of funding for the mission.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations for ongoing projects and maintaining communication with donors.
  • Developing and coordinating project proposals for secondary donors, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
  • Preparing and coordinating reports for donors, ensuring timely submission and adherence to quality standards.
  • Managing communication and visibility strategies, including the development of communication plans and partnership strategies.
  • Supporting the Grant Coordinator in project monitoring and the initiation of new projects.
  • Implementing grant follow-up tools to track project progress and ensure accountability.
  • Ensuring that all pending reports and tasks with local and international partners are finalized.
  • Taking full responsibility for the management of the FHRAOC-funded project, including reporting and communication with stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BAC+4) in international relations, development and humanitarian action, political science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role within the humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in grant management and knowledge of various donors.
  • Strong coordination skills in drafting and developing project proposals.
  • Excellent writing and representation skills, with clarity, precision, and ease in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage stress effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BAC+4) in relevant fields such as international relations, humanitarian action, political science, or equivalent experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and grant management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in grant management and project coordination. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in similar roles and be familiar with the challenges and dynamics of humanitarian interventions.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Burkina Faso. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and donors.

Additional Notes:
The position is a short-term contract with a duration of 6 months, renewable based on performance and funding availability. The role is full-time and based in Ouagadougou, with potential travel to Mali. The salary starts at EUR 2,365 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 2,150 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 550 is provided. SI covers housing costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's home country and the duty station. A break system is in place, allowing for 7 working days off every three months, with additional rest days accrued for each month worked. Expatriates receive comprehensive health insurance covering medical expenses, including dental and optical care, and are reimbursed for necessary vaccinations and malaria treatment. Living conditions in Ouagadougou are described as pleasant, with a vibrant cultural scene and good access to restaurants and entertainment. Expatriates are not permitted to drive personal vehicles, but the organization provides accommodations with essential services such as water, electricity, and internet access.
