Job Overview: The CT Technical Assistant position is designed for Ugandan nationals and is primarily focused on providing technical advisory services related to office technology and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) within NRC offices. The role involves planning for technology upgrades, expansions, and replacements, ensuring that all office technology is systematically assessed, specified, and budgeted for. The CT Technical Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining computer networks, managing access privileges, and ensuring that data storage and backups are regularly configured and maintained. This position requires a proactive approach to providing ICT technical support to NRC field offices, ensuring optimal performance of office technology, and scheduling regular maintenance for all technology-related services. Duties and Responsibilities: The CT Technical Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing technical advisory services on appropriate office technology options; planning and overseeing technology upgrades and replacements; ensuring the maintenance of computer networks and technology access privileges; providing ICT technical support to NRC field offices; scheduling regular maintenance and license renewals for technology services; updating disaster recovery plans for office technology; defining and maintaining system security for shared services; ensuring the installation of protection services such as antivirus and firewalls; monitoring LAN and WAN bandwidth usage; creating and maintaining an ICT configuration database; organizing preventive service and maintenance schedules for ICT hardware; and providing support to NRC Vocational Skills Training Centers (VSTs). The CT Technical Assistant may also be assigned additional duties by their supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the CT Technical Assistant position must possess a B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Additionally, applicants should have at least 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly in ICT roles within humanitarian or recovery contexts. Hands-on experience with hardware, LAN/WLAN, and prior ICT experience in challenging environments are essential. Certification in Microsoft Server or Cisco products is considered a plus. Candidates should also demonstrate strong professional competencies, including good communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in insecure environments.
