Job Overview: The Financial Officer / Data Science Officer position is situated within the Development Finance Vice-Presidency (DFi) of the World Bank, which is responsible for corporate finance aspects of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), resource mobilization, and management of the world's largest concessional fund, the International Development Association (IDA). The role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including the President's office, Executive Directors, and senior management, to ensure effective financial management and strategic initiatives. The selected candidate will primarily support the Data & Analytics cluster, contributing to the development and maintenance of financial models, data analysis, and reporting processes that inform senior leadership decisions. This position is critical in enhancing the financial strategies and policies that underpin the sustainability and effectiveness of the IBRD and IDA.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will have a range of responsibilities, including acting as a primary analyst for corporate balance sheet projection models and risk exposure models, which are essential for assessing capital adequacy and financing needs. The role involves data cleaning, validation, and standardization of large datasets, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data used for reporting and analysis. The candidate will also play a key role in senior leadership reporting, analyzing key risk indicators, and compliance with policy frameworks. Additionally, the position requires leading technical enhancements to improve process automation and efficiency, contributing to AI-assisted analytics, and engaging with IT for project design and user acceptance testing. The candidate will be responsible for improving reporting and visualization of analyses, creating dashboards, and responding to ad hoc data requests for high-level policy papers and presentations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Finance, Financial Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Math, IT, or a related field. Progress toward professional certifications such as CFA, PRM, or FRM is considered a plus. A minimum of 6 years of work experience is required, with at least 3 years in Banking, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Risk Management, or Asset Liability Management (ALM). Candidates should demonstrate high analytical ability, critical thinking skills, and intellectual curiosity, with a strong background in statistical data analysis and quantitative techniques. Proficiency in statistical analysis languages such as Matlab, R/RStudio, or QuantLib is advantageous, along with advanced skills in data extraction, cleaning, and analysis using Excel, SQL, and Python.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Financial Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Math, or IT. Candidates who are progressing toward professional certifications like CFA, PRM, or FRM will have an added advantage in the selection process.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 6 years of relevant work experience, with a minimum of 3 years directly related to Banking, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Risk Management, or Asset Liability Management (ALM).
