Job Overview: The STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Nigeria Program Officer II is tasked with supporting project implementation through administrative assistance and program management functions. This role is crucial for ensuring that the various aspects of the STRIDES Activity are executed effectively at the state level, adhering to schedules and budgets. The Program Officer will collect, compile, and analyze information relevant to project activities, provide administrative and project support, and contribute to project-related communication and coordination. Additionally, the officer will monitor project budgets and ensure compliance-related documentation is maintained. Reporting directly to the STRIDES Nigeria Country Project Director, the Program Officer II will also support the evaluation of project progress, monitor subgrantee deliverables, and provide capacity building support as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: providing support to project management, delivering presentations, leading meetings, and collaborating with the STRIDES Nigeria team to meet project needs. The officer will synthesize existing information and data into summaries of progress on key project activities, support compliance oversight activities, identify project issues and risks, and coordinate with leadership to ensure project timelines and budgets are adhered to. Responsibilities also include monitoring subcontractor deliverables, maintaining project files, facilitating communication with partners, managing the project calendar, and providing administrative support as needed. The officer will assist with financial tracking against project objectives and deliverables, interpret budgets, and serve as a liaison to internal units such as finance and contracts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in public health, business administration, health sciences, or behavioral sciences, along with a basic understanding of project design concepts and practices. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software. The ability to problem-solve, recommend corrective actions, and maintain strong organizational skills with attention to detail is crucial for adhering to project deadlines. Candidates must be articulate and professional, capable of communicating clearly and positively with clients and staff, and must be fluent in English.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, business administration, health sciences, or behavioral sciences is required. This educational background should provide candidates with a foundational understanding of project management principles and practices, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is also advantageous, as it is commonly used in project management tasks.
