Job Overview: The Access and Liaison Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of Relief International's operations in Juba, South Sudan. This position involves conducting assessments of the local safety and security situation, which includes reporting safety information and liaising with local authorities. The assistant will provide valuable input for field office security risk assessments (SRA) and assist in planning implementation strategies in accordance with guidance from the EmergencyTeam Leader. The role also encompasses the supervision of local guard forces at various facilities, ensuring that they are well-trained and equipped to maintain safety standards. The Access and Liaison Assistant is responsible for maintaining communication equipment, such as VHF/HF radios and satellite phones, and will contribute to budgeting for these items. Furthermore, the assistant will represent Relief International in security-related meetings in the absence of the Emergency Team Leader and will be involved in conducting fire evacuation and health and safety drills for staff. This position is vital for maximizing the safety of RI premises and ensuring that all operations are conducted smoothly and securely.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Access and Liaison Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting assessments of local safety and security situations; providing input for security risk assessments; planning and implementing safety measures; supervising local guard forces; ensuring the safety of RI premises; keeping the Emergency Team Leader informed about security developments; assisting in negotiations for access with county authorities; preparing movement trackers; representing RI in security meetings; inspecting vehicles for safety compliance; and performing any other tasks assigned by the Area Manager or immediate supervisor. The assistant will also be responsible for capacity building of the local guard force, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Required Qualifications: Applicants for the Access and Liaison Assistant position should possess a degree or diploma in social sciences, political science, or international relations. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in humanitarian organizations or liaison work is required. Experience working with community leaders is considered an added advantage. Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and spoken English language skills, as effective communication is essential for this role.
